Preparing for Passover

March 23, 2020
1:00 pm - 2:15 pm

Let’s Explore Selections from the Haggadah, Mishna, and Talmud

with Rabbi Ilyse Kramer

Mondays, March 23, March 30 and April 6
1:00pm – 2:15pm

This 3-week series will explore a selection of texts primarily from the perspective of First Century, CE Jewish communities in Jerusalem and the Galilee. We will read about the teachings of Rabban Gamliel and later Rabbis, who, over the ages, help craft the layers and layers of tradition that come to comprise the Passover Seder we are familiar “telling around the table” today. Each session will include readings from classical texts in English/Hebrew, as well as, provide time to ask and discuss timely questions of contemporary importance, such as: What purpose does the vilification of the “Other” serve? What tools do we possess in the 21st century to address such issues? How is this really a Pesach celebration at all (from the perspective of the Bible; and the Exodus Narratives in particular, for example), if we no longer sacrifice a pascal lamb or offer pascal sacrifices? All are welcome to join.
