JOB DESCRIPTION               Columbia Jewish Congregation (CJC) Social Media/Website Coordinator 
$30 per hour, part-time  6.5 hours per week

The Social Media/Website Coordinator plays a critical role in driving awareness of Columbia Jewish Congregation and its programs in the marketplace through the creation, production and distribution of compelling, impactful social media content. Essential in the ongoing transformation of the organization’s social media presence, with a focus on driving engagement with multiple audiences across CJC’s existing social channels, growing those audiences and devising strategies to acquire new audiences and grow the current audiences.

The Social Media Coordinator will create content for our website and for Facebook and Instagram and work directly with the Executive Director to maintain and grow the congregation’s online and social media presence. 

The ideal candidate is a creative and analytical marketer with a passion for social media, content creation, and storytelling and is able to implement strategic recommendations across all social media channels. 

Much of the work can be done remotely and at any time of the day. 

Familiarity with [Reconstructing] Judaism is preferred but not mandatory.  

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and produce all CJC communication (online and in print)
    • Oversee all social media platforms for the synagogue (Instagram and Facebook)
    • Coordinate with relevant CJC committees to create content that communicates the ethos of, and builds outside interest in, the synagogue
  • Write content to support communications and marketing efforts, including newsletters, website copy, brochures, and press releases.
    • “Weekly Update” email newsletter – gather and curate content
    • Weekly “Celebrate Shabbat” notices to congregation
    • Targeted email blasts about upcoming programs and events
  • Review the website regularly to ensure it is factually correct and current
    • Maintain CJC’s public-facing calendar
    • Add Rabbi’s divrei torah [sermons] to the website
  • Monitor and report on analytics to drive media/marketing strategy 
  • Assist in streamlining our brand for a cohesive marketing approach
  • Develop and implement creative and strategic social media goals
  • Respond to social media comments in the voice of the congregation

What You’ll Bring:

  • BA/BS or comparable experience required
  • Experience posting and knowledge of trends on Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp and other evolving social media platforms
  • Advanced knowledge and experience creating static and video content in Canva and other social media content creation software
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work well within a team
  • Strong multitasking skills and attention to detail a must
  • Timely and effective communication skills, both oral and written
